Passengers on a train in Austria were shocked and outraged when they heard recordings of Adolf Hitler’s speeches and Nazi slogans over the loudspeaker system on Sunday. The incident occurred on a train running from Bregenz to Vienna, operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (OeBB).

The passengers and the crew were unable to stop the recordings and could not make their own announcements. The OeBB said it had reported the matter to the police and distanced itself from the content.
One of the passengers was David Stoegmueller, a Green Party MP, who said he heard two episodes of Hitler’s speech and the crowd shouting “Heil Hitler” and “Sieg Heil”. He told the BBC that everyone on the train was “completely shocked” and that one crew member was “really upset”.
He also said he received an email from a man who was on the train with an old lady who was a concentration camp survivor. “She was crying,” he said. He added that another passenger remarked that when other countries had technical problems, it involved the air conditioning breaking down. “In Austria, the technical problem is Hitler.”
