A Kick streamer who is notorious for harassing Japanese people with racist remarks and trespassing on private property has been sentenced to a five-year prison term in Japan.
Johnny Somali, who has been arrested several times in Japan for his actions, which have sparked outrage and condemnation from both locals and online communities, was found guilty of forcible obstruction of business after he disrupted the operations of several restaurants in Osaka by streaming inside their premises without permission.
He also faces deportation and a lifetime ban from entering Japan after he serves his sentence. The Japanese government is making an example of him to deter other streamers from engaging in similar behavior.
Johnny Somali, who claims to be from Somalia but has a US passport, has been accused of racism, xenophobia, sexual harassment, vandalism, theft, assault, and violating the state of emergency imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He has repeatedly insulted Japanese people with derogatory terms, mocked their culture and values, and provoked them to react violently. He has also trespassed on private property, such as temples, shrines, schools, and homes, and filmed without consent.
He has shown no remorse for his actions and has continued to violate the law and the rights of others. He has said in one of his streams: “I don’t care about Japan or its people. I’m just here to have fun and make money. I’m not racist, I’m just trolling. They can’t do anything to me. I have freedom of speech and expression.”
However, his freedom came at a cost. He was arrested several times by the Japanese police, who have been monitoring his activities closely. He was also confronted by an American citizen who tried to stop him from harassing Japanese people.
He was finally sentenced to a five-year prison term by a Japanese court, which said: “He is a menace to society and a danger to the public. He has shown no remorse for his actions and has continued to violate the law and the rights of others. He deserves to be punished severely and expelled from this country.”
His sentence has been welcomed by many people who have been offended and disturbed by his behavior. A Japanese citizen who witnessed Johnny Somali’s harassment said: “He is not welcome here. He has insulted our culture, our values, and our dignity. He has caused trouble and distress to many people. He has no respect for anyone or anything. He is a disgrace to humanity.”
A Kick user who commented on Johnny Somali’s stream said: “He is a pathetic loser who needs attention and validation. He has no talent, no skills, no morals, no manners, no empathy, no sense of responsibility. He is a waste of space and resources. He should be banned from all platforms and social media.”
A former friend and collaborator of Johnny Somali said: “He is a victim of his own ignorance and arrogance. He has brought this upon himself. He has crossed the line too many times. He has underestimated the consequences of his actions. He has learned his lesson the hard way.”
