Nothing Chats: The app that lets you use iMessage on Android

    Published on

Nothing, a startup founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has launched a new app that lets you chat with your friends on iMessage, no matter what phone they have. It’s the ultimate cross-platform messaging experience.

The app, called Nothing Chats, is available exclusively for owners of Nothing’s Phone 2, the second-generation flagship device from the company. The Phone 2 is an Android phone that boasts a sleek design, a powerful processor, and a 120Hz display. But the most impressive feature of the Phone 2 is its ability to send and receive iMessages to and from iPhones.

iMessage is Apple’s proprietary messaging service that allows iPhone users to send texts, photos, videos, stickers, and more to each other over the internet. It also supports end-to-end encryption, which means that only the sender and the receiver can read the messages. iMessage is widely popular among iPhone users, but it is not compatible with other platforms, such as Android or Windows.

Nothing Chats aims to change that by using a messaging provider called Sunbird, which uses a cluster of Macs to enable Apple sign-ins and relay iMessages. You need a Sunbird account to use Nothing Chats, and you also need to enter your Apple ID credentials in the app. Once you do that, you can start chatting with your iPhone friends on iMessage, just like you would on an iPhone.

However, Nothing Chats is not an official Apple product and is not endorsed by Apple. It may violate Apple’s terms of service and result in your Apple ID being suspended or banned. Use Nothing Chats at your own risk.

Nothing Chats also has some limitations, such as not supporting group chats, voice messages, or read receipts. It also does not encrypt your messages in transit or at rest. Sunbird has access to your Apple ID credentials and messages, and may store them indefinitely. Sunbird may also share your data with third parties, including law enforcement, advertisers, and hackers. Nothing Chats is not secure or private.

Nothing Chats is the first time an Android phone maker has integrated iMessage compatibility into its device, and it could be a game-changer for Android users who want to communicate with iPhone users without using third-party apps, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or Signal. It could also pressure Apple to open up iMessage to other platforms, or risk losing its loyal customers.

Nothing Chats is a bold move by Nothing to challenge Apple’s dominance in the messaging space. It could attract more Android users who want to stay in touch with their iPhone friends without compromising on the quality of their device. It could also spark a new wave of innovation and competition in the smartphone industry.

Nothing Chats is available now for Phone 2 users in select markets. You can download it from the Nothing App Store. Nothing Chats is free for the first month, and then costs $9.99 per month. Nothing Chats is not compatible with other Android phones or devices.
