Four teenage boys from Clyde-Savannah High School in New York have been indicted by a Wayne County Grand Jury for sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy in the locker room before a football practice. The incident, which was recorded and shared on social media, has shocked and outraged the small rural community.
Three of the boys, aged 15, 16, and 17, are charged with aggravated sexual abuse, hazing, and forcible touching. The fourth boy, aged 16, is charged with unlawful surveillance for recording and sharing the assault on social media. The victim’s parents reported the incident to the police after seeing the video.
The suspects were arraigned in youth court and released to their parents. They are expected to appear in court again next week.
The community has reacted with shock and anger to the news. Many residents and parents have voiced their support for the victim and his family, and their disgust and disappointment with the suspects and their actions.
“I don’t think there is any happiness that will come out of this case on anyone’s side,” Assistant District Attorney Christine Callanan said. “I think they (the victim’s family) take solace in the fact that we take the case seriously and we’re proceeding with prosecution, but I don’t think they’ll ever be happy with what happened.”
