Beyoncé is not only a superstar on stage, but also a generous and impactful philanthropist. The singer, who is currently on her Renaissance World Tour, has pledged to donate $1 million in scholarships to colleges and universities along her tour route. One of the lucky recipients of her generosity is the Detroit School for Digital Technology (DSDT), a licensed technical training center in southwest Detroit that offers programs in digital media and technology.
On Tuesday, July 25, a day before her concert at Ford Field, Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation, a public charity that supports education and empowerment, awarded $100,000 in scholarship funding to 10 students at DSDT as part of her Renaissance Scholars program. The program aims to impact 10 colleges and universities worldwide, where 100 students will receive $10,000 scholarships each.
The foundation also surprised some attendees at the school with tickets to the concert and shared inspiring stories with them. “We were delighted to spend the morning with the Detroit School for Digital Technology and announce that DSDT will receive $100K in RENAISSANCE Scholarship funds to support students with financial needs,” the foundation said in an Instagram post. “Your commitment to education and elevating your students and communities inspires us. To the RENAISSANCE superstars, we appreciate you taking time out of your busy tour schedules to share your journeys. Your presence was a gift!”
A representative of DSDT expressed gratitude for the donation and the visit. “Today was a truly special day at DSDT, thanks to the BeyGOOD Foundation,” they said. “Their generosity was on full display as they donated $100,000 for scholarships and surprised lucky attendees with Beyoncé concert tickets. But that’s not all – they also shared inspiring stories that left a lasting impact on everyone present. What an unforgettable event!”
Beyoncé has been consistent in her commitment to supporting education and social causes. In 2016, she donated $82,000 for water relief efforts in Flint, Michigan, which included money contributed by fans during her Formation World Tour. She also earmarked $1,000 each for 14 Detroit area high school sophomores with college plans.
The Renaissance World Tour, named after her 2022 album, is set to end on Oct. 1 in Kansas City. Beyoncé’s next stop is Chicago, where she will play two concerts at Soldier Field. Fans can expect not only an incredible performance from the “Cuff It” singer, but also a profound inspirational mission from her BeyGOOD Foundation.
