Paul Walker was not only a star on the big screen, but also a hero in real life. The late actor, who died in a car crash in 2013, secretly bought a $10,000 engagement ring for a couple he met at a jewelry store in 2004.
The couple was Kyle and Kristen Upham, who had just returned from Kyle’s first tour of duty in Iraq. Kyle wanted to buy Kristen a ring, but they couldn’t afford the one she liked. Paul Walker overheard their conversation and asked the store manager to put the ring on his tab without telling them.
“He was really cool. Like ‘Hey, you know what? I like you. You’re very cool. I like your fiancé. Here’s the ring just for you.'” Irene King, the store manager who witnessed Paul Walker’s act of kindness, told CBS News.
The store manager kept the secret for nearly 10 years, until she revealed it after Paul Walker’s tragic death. The Uphams were shocked and grateful for Paul Walker’s generosity and kindness.
“This is so beautiful. I can’t imagine how grateful you must have felt. This story gave me goosebumps.” Kristen Upham, responding to Irene King’s revelation on Facebook.
Paul Walker’s daughter Meadow Walker is 23 years old and works as a model. She often shares photos and memories of her father on social media. On August 9, 2023, she posted a rare throwback photo of her and Paul Walker on Instagram, with the caption “Miss you so much best friend”.
Paul Walker’s brother Cody Walker is the founder and CEO of Reach Out Worldwide, a non-profit organization that provides disaster relief. He also acted as a stand-in for Paul in some scenes of Fast & Furious 7. He spoke about Paul Walker’s legacy in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment.
“He was so much more than just a movie star. He was an inspiration to millions of people worldwide as an actor, but also as an incredibly generous and compassionate human being” Cody Walker said.
Paul Walker’s Toyota Supra from the first Fast & Furious movie was sold for $550,000 at an auction in June 2023. It was one of the most iconic cars in the film series.
“This is one of the rarest pieces of Fast & Furious memorabilia that has ever been offered for sale” Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, the company that auctioned off Paul Walker’s Toyota Supra, told CNN Business.
Paul Walker will always be remembered as a beloved actor and a kind-hearted person who touched many lives with his actions. His fans and family will continue to honor his memory and legacy.
