AI is not just a buzzword or a hype. It is a reality that is transforming every aspect of our lives, from how we communicate, to how we work, to how we learn, to how we entertain ourselves. And according to Mustafa Suleyman, the cofounder of Google’s AI division DeepMind and the CEO of Inflection AI, a tech startup behind an AI chatbot called Pi, AI will soon become our personal chief of staff that will know us better than we know ourselves.
Suleyman, who is one of the leading figures in the field of artificial intelligence, made this bold prediction in an interview with Business Insider, where he shared his vision of how AI will augment humans and help us do what we do best: being human.
“I think in five years’ time we’ll all have our own chief of staff. We’ll all have our own personal assistant that knows us better than we know ourselves. That can help us with everything from reasoning to prioritizing to inventing to being creative,” Suleyman said.
He explained that AI will be able to know the user, understand their personal history, and help them with various tasks such as reasoning, prioritizing, inventing, and being creative. He also said that AI will be aligned with the user’s interests and help them manage and process all the information they need.
“It will be able to reason over your day, help you prioritize your time, help you invent, be much more creative,” he said. “It will be a research assistant, but it will also be a coach and companion.”
He added that AI is not a magic bullet that will solve all of our problems, but rather a tool that will create new ones. He said that we have to be very mindful of how we use it, how we deploy it, and how we regulate it.
To illustrate his vision, Suleyman’s startup Inflection AI has launched Pi, an AI chatbot that can converse with users, learn from them, and provide personalized recommendations. Pi is not just a chatbot, but a conversational agent, a learning agent, and a recommendation agent.
“Pi is an agent that can help you discover new things, new experiences, new people, new places,” Suleyman said.
Pi is currently available as a beta version on iOS and Android devices. Suleyman said that he hopes Pi will become a platform for other developers and creators to build their own AI agents and applications.
Suleyman’s prediction aligns with the perspectives of other experts and industry leaders, who also anticipate that AI will have a significant impact on shaping the future of humanity. Bill Gates, for example, the cofounder of Microsoft, expressed in a seven-page letter that AI is “as fundamental” as the inception of the internet. He further predicts that this technology can assist in simplifying the tasks of healthcare workers and teachers.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, informed investors during an earnings call earlier this year that the technology possesses “tremendous potential” to “impact almost every aspect of our operations” at the renowned iPhone manufacturer.
Whether you are excited or skeptical about AI becoming your personal chief of staff in five years, one thing is certain: AI is here to stay and it will change the way we live, work, and play.
