The stars of the cult classic movie Mean Girls had a mini reunion on Friday, as they were spotted filming a secret project in Los Angeles. Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, who played Cady Heron, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners respectively, were seen with camera crews on a football field, wearing pink outfits and driving a silver convertible, similar to the ones from the movie.
The trio looked happy and excited to be back together, as they posed for photos and shared hugs. They also posted some snaps on their social media accounts, teasing their fans about the mysterious project. Lohan captioned one of her posts: “Something fun for you all to look forward to!!!” Seyfried wrote: “Reunited and it feels so good.” Chabert added: “So fetch.”
The project is reportedly a commercial that will air next year, as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Mean Girls. The movie, which was released in 2004, became a pop culture phenomenon and a box office hit, grossing over $129 million worldwide. It also spawned a Broadway musical adaptation, which is set to return to the stage in 2024.
The movie’s writer and producer Tina Fey, who also played Ms. Norbury in the film, was not seen on the set, but she is said to be involved in the project. She told People in a statement: “We’re all so excited to be part of this project. It’s a surprise for the fans and we hope they love it as much as we do.”
Another cast member who was missing from the reunion was Rachel McAdams, who played the main antagonist Regina George. She is currently busy filming the sequel to Doctor Strange in London. However, she might still make an appearance in the project via video call or pre-recorded footage.
The cast members who were present for the shoot expressed their joy and gratitude for being part of Mean Girls and its legacy. Lohan said: “It was so much fun to see everyone again. We had a blast on set and off. It felt like no time had passed at all.” Seyfried said: “We’re all so happy to be part of this project. It’s a surprise for the fans and we hope they love it as much as we do.” Chabert said: “It’s always a joy to work with these amazing ladies. They’re like family to me. We have such a great chemistry and we always make each other laugh.”
Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels in the movie, also joined the reunion via video call. He said: “We can’t wait to share this project with the world. It’s going to be so fetch!”
