Cat Survives Six-Storey Fall and Smashes Car Window in Thailand

A cat in Bangkok has proved that cats indeed have nine lives when he survived a six-storey fall with no severe injuries despite making a big hole on a car windscreen.

The cat, named Shifu, like Master Shifu from the Kung Fu Panda films, weighed 8.5 kilograms (18.7 pounds) and fell from the balcony of his owner’s condominium on Friday morning. He briefly hit the third-floor balcony before landing on the back windshield of a car parked below.

The car’s owner, Apiwat Toyothaka, a digital creator who also owns a cat, said he was informed about the incident by his condominium’s management at 7 a.m. He said he could not be angry when he saw the frightened cat’s face.

“He said the cat fell from the sixth floor and broke the rear window of his car. According to The Nation, Apiwat said he was not angry when he saw how frightened the cat looked,” reported Mothership.SG, a news website based in Singapore.

Apiwat took the cat to a vet and shared updates on his Facebook page. He said X-rays performed on Shifu revealed no broken bones, and it lost only two claws. He also said the cat was eating well and had no problems discharging waste.

“Security camera footage revealed that Shifu had hung briefly from a balcony on the sixth floor of Apiwat’s condominium before losing its grip and falling. The cat then hit the third floor balcony before smashing into Apiwat’s car,” wrote SAYS, a Malaysian news website.

Shifu’s owner, who lives in the same condominium as Apiwat, was fined 1,000 baht ($31) for damages and promised to move the cat to her relative’s home. She claimed that Shifu ran out to the balcony when she opened the door and slipped and fell.

The condominium manager, Thanakorn Jongjaemfah, said this incident was “the very reason why residents are prohibited from raising pets.” He said damage to the car had been covered by an insurance firm and there was no bad feeling between Apiwat and the cat’s owner.

Shifu’s story has gone viral on social media and attracted comments from animal lovers who praised Apiwat for his kindness and wished Shifu a speedy recovery.

“We’re just glad you’re okay, Shifu!” wrote Tamara Jayne, a journalist for SAYS.
