Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood star and former Governor of California, has revealed that he thinks he would make a great president of the United States, but he is not eligible to run for office because he was born in Austria.
In an interview with the BBC, Schwarzenegger said that he feels like he has the leadership skills and the vision to lead the country, but he is not going to complain about the constitutional requirement that candidates must be natural-born citizens.
“I think I would have been a great president, but I can’t run. I was born in Austria, so I can’t run. And I’m not going to complain about it. It’s just the way the Constitution is written,” he said.
Schwarzenegger, who served as the Governor of California from 2003 to 2011, also said that he hopes that America will find some younger candidates for the next election in 2024, rather than having a battle between people in their late 70s and early 80s.
“I think it’s time for young blood. I think it’s time for people that are in their 40s and 50s to take over, rather than having people in their late 70s and early 80s running for president,” he said.
He praised President Joe Biden for his efforts to combat climate change and COVID-19, and said he is willing to work with anyone who shares his vision for a better future.
“I’m very happy with what President Biden is doing. He’s really fighting hard for the environment, he’s fighting hard against this virus, he’s fighting hard to get the economy back. And I’m always ready to help,” he said.
He added that he does not care about the political affiliation of the leaders, as long as they are inclusive and bring people together rather than separate them.
“I don’t care if someone is a Republican or a Democrat or an independent. As long as they have a great vision and they’re inclusive and they bring people together rather than separate them, I’m 100% behind them,” he said.
Schwarzenegger, who is known for his iconic roles in movies such as The Terminator, Predator and Total Recall, also shared some advice for aspiring leaders and achievers.
“I always say you should never ever listen to the naysayers. You should always listen to yourself and say: ‘Yes, you can,'” he said.
