Zeekr, a Chinese automaker, has launched its first mass-market electric vehicle, the 007 sedan. The car is a luxury sedan that offers impressive features and affordability. It is also a significant addition to Zeekr’s portfolio, which already includes three other models.
The 007 sedan is based on Geely’s SEA modular EV platform. It supports a dual-motor powertrain with silicon-carbide motors. The car also features an 800-volt electrical system that enables a fast charging time. Zeekr claims that “a range of over 400 miles will be possible in long-range grades” with the 007 sedan.
The interior of the car is sleek and roomy. It features a digital gauge cluster in front of the driver and a large touchscreen display with a landscape orientation mounted on the center stack. The car also comes with multiple sensors, including a lidar unit, 12 cameras, and five radar sensors. These support the vehicle’s standard automated driver-assist feature known as “Zeekr Pilot”.
The 007 sedan is priced very affordably in China, thanks to generous subsidies. It starts at the equivalent of just 209,900 yuan or roughly $29,475. This makes it a competitive option in the luxury sedan market, which is dominated by brands like Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
Zeekr has already received over 50,000 preorders for the 007 sedan, which was officially launched on November 17, ahead of the Guangzhou Auto Show. Deliveries of the model will begin on Jan. 1 and CEO Andy An told reporters in a post-launch interview that Zeekr’s goal is for the Zeekr 007 to become a benchmark model in its segment.
Several generations of Geely-developed sedans have been successful, and we are confident about the Zeekr 007,” An said, as reported by CnEVPost. The Zeekr 007’s smart cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip that supports the Kr GPT AI. This enables the system with smart features such as news searching, translations, and scheduling. This will be the brand’s first car to feature Zeekr’s own assisted driving system. The company’s other models use Mobileye’s smart driving chips and assisted driving systems.
Zeekr is a new entrant in the EV market, having been established in 2021 as a joint venture between Geely and Tencent. The company aims to create premium EVs that cater to the young and tech-savvy consumers. In just two years, Zeekr has launched four cars, with the 007 being the latest.
