Buzz Builds as Nintendo Switch 2 Rumors Hint at 120Hz Display, Advanced Specs and 2024 Release

    Published on

The gaming community is abuzz with rumors about the Nintendo Switch’s potential successor, tentatively dubbed the Switch 2. Speculations around its specs, display, pricing, and release timeline have gamers and industry observers on the edge of their seats, as everyone eagerly anticipates official word from Nintendo on the next iteration of its wildly successful hybrid console.

According to reports, the Nintendo Switch 2 is poised to make significant strides in hardware performance with an NVIDIA T239 processor at its core, coupled with a substantial 8GB of RAM and a starting internal storage space of 64GB. Taiwain’s Economic Daily has reported a new rumor regarding hardware specs for the Nintendo Switch 2, including details regarding the handheld’s display. The source has mentioned that the console maker is expected to launch the new Switch this year in 2024, as per market expectations.

Perhaps most exciting is the rumored inclusion of a 120Hz display, a feature that could greatly enhance the visual fluidity and gaming experience for titles that support higher frame rates. The potential for Variable Refresh Rate technology was not confirmed, but it would be a logical addition to complement the high refresh rate display.

This next-gen handheld is speculated to be priced at $400, a $100 increase from the original Switch’s current price. Industry insiders suggest that Nintendo is aiming for a strong market penetration with a standalone hardware offering, with the expectation of recouping profits through game software. This strategy has been historically successful for the company, and with the rising costs in the supply chain, the higher price point seems to be a necessary adjustment.

Another leak, shared by a user named SoldierDelta, suggests that there could be two models – a standard model for $449 and a digital option for $400(or more likely,$399). If this rumor is true, this could mark the first time Nintendo offers a console without physical media support.

Though the 120Hz display rumor is intriguing, other sources are pointing towards a potentially larger 8-inch LCD panel, possibly to manage costs. OLED technology, while desirable for its rich colors and deep blacks, might be reserved for a more premium version of the Switch 2.

Under the hood, the new console is expected to leverage NVIDIA’s expertise with an octa-core ARM A78C CPU and a custom GPU based on the RTX 30-series Ampere architecture. This suggests that the performance could rival that of previous generation home consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One. Additionally, the Switch 2 might boast features like DLSS, further pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in handheld gaming.

Backward compatibility is also a topic of hot debate among enthusiasts. Given Nintendo’s history and the need for a smooth transition to new hardware, it would seem logical for the Switch 2 to maintain compatibility with existing Switch titles, but no definitive information has been provided on this aspect.

While we must take these leaks and rumors with a grain of salt, the collective chatter points to a potential landmark year for Nintendo in 2024. The gaming giant has yet to confirm any details, and the community is watching closely for any sign of an official announcement. Whether it’s through a Nintendo Direct presentation or another channel, the hope is that details surrounding the Switch 2 will soon shift from the realm of speculation to confirmed facts. Until then, the speculation will undoubtedly continue to spark conversations and dreams of what Nintendo has in store for the future of hybrid gaming.
