“Late Night with the Devil” Conjures Up Record-Breaking Box Office Earnings for IFC Films

    Published on

The box office witnessed an eerie coincidence as the horror flick “Late Night with the Devil” not only spooked audiences but also managed to summon a devilishly precise sum of $666,666 on March 24th. This chilling figure contributed to its overall gross of $2.8 million, positioning the film at sixth place in the box office race.

“Late Night with the Devil,” produced by IFC Films, took viewers back to the late 1970s where fictional talk show host Jack Delroy, played by David Dastmalchian, plans a Halloween special like no other- unaware he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America. Resulting in what Scott Shooman, head of AMC Networks Films, highlighted it set fire to our old opening record, asserting, “continues to showcase that there is still potential for highly reviewed, intelligent auteur films in movie theaters across all genres.”

IFC’s Late Night With The Devil has scared up the distributor’s largest opening weekend ever with an estimated $2.8+ million on 1.043 screens. The previous front-runners were “Watcher,” “Skinamarink,” and “Blackberry,” with “Watcher” leading the pack at $827k.

The Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Spooky Pictures pic premiered at SXSW and has since played Fantasia Festival in Montreal, Sydney Film Festival, BIFAN in Korea, Sitges, London Film Festival, and Toronto After Dark. Cameron and Colin won for Best Screenplay at Sitges.’Late Night with the Devil’ received a Certified Fresh 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it held a perfect 100% rating for quite some time. With such strong reactions coming off of its SXSW premiere, the movie seems to have been able to build quite a bit of hype in the weeks leading up to its official theatrical release.

Competing against big-budget films such as “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the pack with a hefty $45.2 million, and other heavy hitters like “Dune: Part Two” and “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Late Night with the Devil’s” impressive earnings stand out as a testament to the allure of well-crafted, auteur horror cinema. “Late Night with the Devil” will also later release on the horror streaming service, Shudder, April 19.
