In a striking admission, a Texan who once cast his ballot for Donald Trump has publicly renounced his allegiance to the Republican Party, echoing Hillary Clinton’s criticisms of the former president and admitting that she was “absolutely right” about him. This individual, known as Texas Trey, revealed his disillusionment with the GOP and the politicization of everyday life, which has driven him to declare his independence from the party he had loyally supported for decades.
During an interview on CNN’s “Laura Coates Live,” Texas Trey articulated his change of heart, stating, “Yes, absolutely” when asked if his thoughts on Clinton had evolved. “And I already know she was absolutely right, she was absolutely right about everything that she said, although I didn’t necessarily pay too much attention to the things she said,” he added.
This shift comes amidst broader reflections within the Republican ranks, with even Senator Lisa Murkowski expressing her aversion to the possibility of Trump as the party’s nominee once more, stating that she “absolutely” would not support him. And she added: “I just regret that our party is seemingly becoming a party of Donald Trump.”
The transformation of Trey’s perspective is not merely about personality politics. He explained, “Really, this election is a referendum on freedom and democracy at this point. A lot of people say, you know, we’re republic, well, yes, but we have democratic processes and principles that underpin that republic.” In fact, he is voting purely to protect the country from losing its foundation. “A vote for Trump runs the risk of losing all of that,” Trey said, addressing the gravity of what he sees at stake.
“Politics was something that for the majority of my life just didn’t permeate every aspect of it like it does now. I mean, It’s just injected into everything we do,” he told Coates. Democrats and Republicans used to mainly argue about the budget, he added. But now, it’s the “beer you drink to the stores you shop in, it all has political implications.”
The echo of Clinton’s past warnings about Trump, once dismissed by many Republicans, now reverberates with newfound resonance among those who once opposed her.
