At 98, Dick Van Dyke Shatters Records as the Oldest Daytime Emmy Nominee

    Published on

Dick Van Dyke, a beloved icon of stage and screen, has just set a new milestone by becoming the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee at the age of 98. Recognized for his guest appearance on the long-running soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” Van Dyke has not only continued to endear himself to fans of all ages but has now etched his name into the annals of Emmy history.

The nomination was announced for Van Dyke’s portrayal of the character Timothy Robicheaux, an elderly man struggling with amnesia on the Peacock network’s “Days of Our Lives.” This role marks a departure from the light-hearted “comedy old men” parts that Van Dyke is known for, as last year, he mentioned that this was the first time he played his “97-year-old self.”

In a year of firsts, Amazon also scored its inaugural Daytime Drama Emmy nomination with “Neighbours,” featuring Guy Pearce, who is competing against Van Dyke in the Guest Performer Category.

Van Dyke’s exceptional career has previously been decorated with four Primetime Emmys, including three for his eponymous sitcom “The Dick Van Dyke Show” in the 1960s. Beyond television, his accolades include a Tony and a Grammy, solidifying his place as a multi-talented entertainer. His career has spanned an astonishing seven decades, during which he has inspired countless artists and audiences.

Viewers can tune in to the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live on June 7 at 8 pm ET on CBS and will also be available to stream on Paramount+. The ceremony promises to honor a diverse range of television’s most exceptional talents.
