GOP Senator Thom Tillis Calls Out Marjorie Taylor Greene: ‘A Horrible Leader, Dragging Our Brand Down’

    Published on

In a striking rebuke from within her own party, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) has openly criticized Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), calling her “uninformed,” “a total waste of time,” and “a horrible leader” who is “dragging our brand down.” Tillis’s condemnation comes amid Greene’s vocal opposition to a recently passed $95 billion foreign aid bill, which includes significant military aid to Ukraine and Israel. The legislation, expected to be signed by President Biden, has sparked controversy among GOP hardliners.

Greene’s criticism of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for his role in advancing the foreign aid package has been caustic. She has accused Johnson of betraying Republican voters and has even filed a motion to vacate his position, though she has not yet pushed for it to be taken up immediately.

Johnson on Saturday said: “I’ve done here what I believe to be the right thing, and that is to allow the House to work its will. And as I’ve said, you do the right thing, and you let the chips fall where they may, and I’ll continue to do that.”

“I’m embarrassed to have actually lived geographically in her district at one time before she was there,” Tillis stated.

Tillis is not alone in his apprehension. Other Republican senators, including Mitt Romney of Utah and Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, have also expressed disapproval of Greene’s actions. Romney remarked that some people are driven by social media attention rather than substantial policy contributions, while Cramer suggested that if Johnson is not satisfactory, then perhaps no one would be.

The foreign aid package, opposed by Greene, passed the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 79-18 and was segmented into four separate bills by the House. Speaker Johnson has defended the package, citing the threat posed by Russia and Iran to global security and American interests.

The New York Post published a doctored image of Greene in a Soviet-style hat with the headline “Nyet, Moscow Marjorie” .

Greene’s office has been contacted for comment, but as of now, no statement has been made in response to the criticisms levied by her Republican colleagues.
