However, recent moves by Greene, including her unsuccessful attempt to end aid to Ukraine and a quixotic challenge against House Speaker Mike Johnson, have led to her receiving criticism from corners of the conservative media that once may have been more sympathetic.
Greene has been coming under fire from within her own party since threatening to lead an ouster against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). If her push makes it to the floor, however, there are reports Democrats could step in to help save Johnson.
The New York Post, owned by the Murdoch family and typically a haven for conservative voices, featured Greene on its front page, not in triumph but under the biting nickname “Moscow Marjorie”. The newspaper’s criticism comes as part of a broader pattern of discontent among right-wing media figures with Greene’s recent actions.
Greene’s divisive tactics have reached a point where even international observers are taking notice. Remarkably, her stance on Ukraine aid has earned her praise from Russian state media, with a television host lauding her as “a real beauty” and “demonstrably heterosexual,” comments that seem more suited to distraction than serious political discourse. Such endorsements from adversarial foreign media do little to bolster her standing back home.
“Permanent funding for Ukraine is exactly what they want and Mike Johnson will give it to them,” Greene said Sunday in a post on the social platform X, referring to Ukrainian leadership and the Biden administration. “Peace is not an option for them because it doesn’t fit the government appropriations war business and economic model, which is vile and disgusting.”
Despite Greene’s ongoing feud with fellow Republicans like Rep. Lauren Boebert and her echoing of Russian talking points on Ukraine, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s successful passage of Ukraine aid shows his capability to navigate and deflect Greene’s attacks, even within a GOP holding a slim majority in the House.
