GLOCK Unveils G17L Gen5 MOS 9mm: A New Benchmark in Precision Shooting

    Published on

GLOCK, the renowned firearms manufacturer, has introduced the G17L Gen5 MOS pistol at the NRA Annual Meetings held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, which occurred from May 17 to 19, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. This newest addition to their 5th Generation lineup is turning heads with its range of features designed for top-tier performance and accuracy in competitive shooting.

The G17L Gen5 MOS is engineered for excellence, incorporating a 6.02-inch barrel, the longest in the G17 series, offering shooters a long 205-mm sight radius for enhanced precision. The design also boasts a slotted and finely balanced slide, along with the GLOCK Performance Trigger, which provides a slightly lighter pull, further contributing to the pistol’s exceptional accuracy.

A notable feature of this model is the Modular Optic System (MOS) technology. This inclusion simplifies the mounting of popular optical sights such as red dots, facilitating rapid target acquisition—a vital advantage in competitive scenarios. The G17L Gen5 MOS also incorporates all Gen5 design characteristics and technology improvements, including the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) and the removal of finger grooves from the grip for a more individualized and comfortable hold.

Josh Dorsey, the Vice President at GLOCK, Inc., expressed excitement about the new model stating, “As Perfection Continues at GLOCK, we are continually in development of new technologies and expanding our product offering. We are excited to bring you these two new additions to the Gen5 line of pistols.”

For improved ergonomic handling, the G17L Gen5 MOS includes an ambidextrous slide-stop lever and a reversible magazine catch, accommodating both right and left-handed users. The pistol’s magazine capacity stands at 17 rounds, with other options available to comply with various legal requirements.

Safety remains a paramount concern for GLOCK, and the new model is no exception. The G17L Gen5 MOS features the Safe Action System, with three independently operating mechanical safeties that sequentially disengage when the trigger is pulled and re-engage upon release.

Online forums and industry insiders have shown a mix of anticipation and skepticism toward the new G17L Gen5 MOS. While some gun enthusiasts have expressed excitement about owning the latest GLOCK model, others have deemed it unnecessary, citing advancements in dot optic technology that make longer barrels less relevant. Despite the divided opinions, the introduction of the G17L Gen5 MOS represents GLOCK’s commitment to innovation and its responsiveness to the competitive shooting community’s evolving needs.
