Dating has come a long way since the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Back then, dating was a minefield of rules and regulations that would make anyone’s head spin. From what to wear to how to behave, there were strict guidelines that had to be followed if you wanted to find love.
One of the most absurd dating rules from the past was that women were not allowed to call men. Instead, they had to wait for the man to call them. This rule was so strict that women were not even allowed to pick up the phone if it rang. They had to wait for a man to answer it and then ask for them.

Another ridiculous rule was that women were not allowed to wear pants on a date. They had to wear a dress or a skirt, no matter what the weather was like outside. This rule was so strict that some restaurants would not even allow women in if they were wearing pants.
But it wasn’t just women who had to follow these absurd rules. Men also had their fair share of ridiculous regulations. For example, men were not allowed to order food for their date. Instead, they had to ask their date what she wanted and then order it for her.
These are just a few examples of the many absurd dating rules from the past. Thankfully, we live in a more modern age where we are free to date whoever we want and wear whatever we want.

Dating has changed over time. In the past, you may not have looked twice at someone because they didn’t like the same music as you. But experience has taught you to acknowledge your own personal deal-breakers – and accept the rest.
Modern dating practices have been labeled “hookup culture” practices, which can make clarifying expectations upfront an important part of setting up a date. In the past, it was typically frowned upon to hookup or engage in anything past a kiss on the first date.
These are just some examples of how dating has changed over time. It’s clear that we’ve come a long way since the days of strict dating rules and regulations.
