Lauren Boebert’s 18-year-old son, Tyler Boebert, has been arrested in Garfield County, Colorado, on February 27, 2024, and is facing 22 charges in relation to a string of vehicle and property thefts. The arrest, detailed on the Rifle Police Department’s Facebook page, occurred around 2:30 PM.
Tyler’s charges include multiple counts of criminal possession of a financial device, first-degree criminal auto trespass with intent to commit a crime, criminal possession of identification documents, conspiracy to commit felony, identity theft possession with intent to use, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and theft of less than $300.
The recent arrest comes amidst troubling times for the Boebert family, as Tyler’s father, Jayson Boebert, the ex-husband of U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert, was also taken into custody following a physical altercation with his teenage son. According to officials, the Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from Tyler on an early Tuesday morning, where he reported that his father had come home drunk and the two had engaged in a physical confrontation.
Garfield County officials have released affidavits detailing both the altercation and an earlier incident involving Jayson Boebert. Charges against the elder Boebert include prohibited use of a firearm and two misdemeanor assault charges.
During the reported altercation, Tyler told the authorities that Jayson Boebert had pushed him down and attempted to remove his tooth by forcing his thumb into his mouth. Furthermore, Tyler described how his father was carrying a rifle around the house while intoxicated. Law enforcement took Jayson Boebert into custody on the basis of the son’s description of the physical altercations, justifying the charges for harassment and assault.
This is not the first time law enforcement has been called to the Boebert family home due to domestic disturbances. In December 2022, one of their sons called 911, accusing Jayson Boebert of physical aggression, but later retracted the accusation. Following these events and other public conflicts, Representative Lauren Boebert filed for divorce.
In a separate, earlier incident reported by a friend of Tyler Boebert, the Boebert family was accused of attempting to cover up details of a car crash caused by the then-17-year-old. The friend, who was injured in the accident, alleged that the incident was downplayed and that his injuries were not properly acknowledged by the family.
These events have unfolded as Lauren Boebert announced plans to move to Colorado’s 4th Congressional District for a run to succeed retiring Representative Ken Buck. Throughout the series of events involving her family, Boebert has not publicly commented on her son’s arrest or her ex-husband’s legal troubles.
