The Republican National Committee and former President Donald Trump’s campaign have unveiled a vast initiative to deploy an unprecedented number of volunteers and legal staff to monitor voting sites and ballot counting across key battleground states for the upcoming presidential election. In what is being characterized as “the most extensive and monumental election integrity program in the nation’s history.”
The Trump campaign and RNC’s announcement outlines ambitions to have thousands of eyes on the ground, with plans to recruit and train approximately 100,000 volunteers.
It’s also a sign that, should Trump once again attempt to overturn the election, he will already have in place tens of thousands of workers who could help with that effort.
“Having the right people to count the ballots is just as important as turning out voters on Election Day,” Trump said in a statement. “Republicans are now working together to protect the vote and ensure a big win on November 5th!”
According to the announcement, the Trump operation plans to deploy lawyers to monitor voter machine testing, early voting, election day voting, mail ballot processing and post-election canvassing, auditing and recounts. The campaign also plans to station lawyers at mail-in voting processing centers and set up a hotline that poll watchers and voters can use to report problems.
This army of observers and a legal team are prepared to report any perceived irregularities at the polls, and legal rapid-response efforts are on standby to address issues as they arise during the vote counting process.
As the party’s presumptive presidential nominee, Trump now controls the RNC and recently installed a new chairman, Michael Whatley, and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as party co-chair.
Charlie Spies has promised tough legal action, declaring, “The Democrat tricks from 2020 won’t work this time,” and assured that the “RNC legal team will be working tirelessly to ensure that election officials follow the rules in administering elections.”
The new election monitoring program comes as the RNC has engaged in dozens of election-related lawsuits around the country.
