Biden Campaign’s Robust February Fundraising Surpasses $53M, Dwarfing Trump’s Efforts

    Published on

As President Joe Biden and his team navigate the turbulent waters of the 2024 election campaign, they can at least claim smooth sailing on the fundraising front. The Biden campaign, in an impressive display of political financing, has amassed over $53 million in February alone, buoyed by a surge of grassroots support and a robust donor base. The campaign’s fundraising efforts in February mark a significant uptick from January’s $42 million and contribute to a formidable war chest of $155 million in cash on hand—a sum that sets a new record for a Democratic presidential candidate at this stage of the election cycle.

This financial milestone was highlighted by Biden deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty, who stated, “President Biden continues to see record-breaking grassroots enthusiasm around a historic and winning agenda, while Donald Trump is poised to enter the general election broke, saddled by his unwavering support for the extremism Americans repeatedly reject at the ballot box.” The Biden campaign’s impressive February fundraising haul was bolstered by 562,000 contributions from 469,000 unique donors. With 97% of individual donations clocking in under $200 since the inception of his reelection bid, it is clear that Biden’s financial backing rests on a broad foundation of grassroots support.

In contrast to Biden’s flourishing campaign coffers, former President Donald Trump’s fundraising efforts appear to be floundering. January saw Trump raise $8.9 million and spend over $11 million, leaving him with just over $30 million on hand. The Republican National Committee, too, is reportedly experiencing its worst fundraising performance since 2015. It remains to be seen how the fundraising dynamic will shift now that Trump has begun to coordinate fully with the RNC.

Amid these developments, the Biden campaign is not resting on its laurels. Capitalizing on the momentum from an assertive State of the Union address, Biden has embarked on a $30 million ad campaign, contrasting his administration with Trump in seven key battleground states. The campaign’s investment in advertising coincides with an expansion of ground operations. As campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez emphasizes, “this race is going to be won on the ground across key states that are core to our multiple pathways to 270.” The campaign is doubling down on its engagement efforts, with outreach aimed at establishing coalitions with key base voters, including Black, Hispanic, and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

While the Biden campaign celebrates its record-breaking fundraising performance, it remains vigilant. Jen O’Malley Dillon, Biden’s campaign chair, cautioned, “We know this is going to be an extremely close election.”
