According to security footage obtained by a leading newspaper, just four days after the arrest of two close Bolsonaro aides suspected of plotting to overthrow the Brazilian government, the former rightwing populist sought shelter at the Hungarian embassy. Should an arrest warrant have been issued, Bolsonaro would have enjoyed immunity within the embassy’s walls, thanks to international law that dictates embassies are territories of their respective nations, thus beyond the host country’s immediate legal jurisdiction.
